Seeing as it had snowed and it doesn’t happen very often here, I made her take me out for a walk. I didn’t have to try very hard, I have to say…for once, she seemed as eager as me to go out to play.
We have long walks through the fields here. She says the country is all flat and boring. That’s ’cause she has no nose.You should smell this place! So many creatures and things! But we don’t often see many because they usually have loads of places to hide.
Except the ladies who munch. And the cows, of course, though they are inside for the winter now.
But there were birds everywhere…lots of them. Especially robins. Then she squeaked ’cause she’d seen a kestrel…
I had other things to do… exploring and stuff. She wouldn’t let me down the fox hole though, and she flatly refusd to let me go swimming.
She did a lot of squeaking at the trees, and a lot of complaining that the snow kept settling on the camera thingy.
To be fair, though, the camera makes her look at stuff. Which is probably why she spotted the little deer before me.
Before you say anything, I was good. Even though I was off the leash! I just watched them for a bit then carried on exploring.
She said I was a good girl… which I thought might mean a longer walk…and it did. The deer ran away eventually and we headed towards the next village.
We could see the old windmill and the snowy village green from where we ended up! That’s a really long walk!
And we still had a long way to go back. But that was fine by me… I love the snow!
She didn’t seem to mind it either ’cause she kept lauging and smiling at me, Said she loved watching me play.
There is just so much to do in the snow. And it kep on snowing, sometimes really heavy too.
And then it would stop and make everything really white and bright. Then start again and the distance disappeared.
We went all round one of my walks, then all round another… and then we tried some new paths too! She really must like playing out in the snow!
She said that everything, even the allotments and the village looked different and magical in the snow…
Some of the houses you don’t even see in the summer when theleaves are on the trees.
And one of them looks even more like a fairytale palace that usual, with its turrets and pinnacles showing through the branches on top of the big hill.
But there are things she likes more than fairytales…and two kites started hunting over the fields. She gets really frustrated when she can’t ‘get’ them very well with the camera though.
Eventually, after a couple of hours, we were heading back home. I stopped to have a word with one of the horses.
It was snowing a lot again and I think she might have been aching a bit from walking through the fields in those boots of hers. She should try it barefoot, I said, but she just looked at me funny.
But then, as we got back into our little street, she started squeaking again…but quietly. I think, if she needed a reward for taking me on such a long walk, she might have got it…
She said it was reward enough just watching me have so much fun… but even so, she seemed pleased with those last few minutes too.
She may not have got the kites in flight…but she got them in the snow and that made her smile. Which made me smile too.

Hi Ani. We got some of that snow stuff too. I hadn’t seen it before. We got a bit of it a couple of days ago, and I didn’t see what the big deal was at the time. Sure, it makes the world slightly different, but it didn’t seem any more special than that stuff the humans call frost. But today we got more, and it made the female human as excited about going outside as me, which was great! We didn’t get as much as you, but she says that’s something that ‘soften the case when people live close to the beach like we do. Anyway, there was enough that it made her eager to stay out longer, and she ghrew balls of the stuff for me to chase. I even ate part of one of them, which I actually thought tasted pretty good. More snow is falling out of the sky, so I might be able to get her to take me to play in it again in a while. I don’t know what it is about the snow stuff that makes the humans so happy and enthusiastic about going outside, but I like it! Lots of licks, Lilie

Hey Lilie! Mine is the same… like a pup gone hyper… But they all sem to get like that. Even the traffic jam in the village when one of the cars got stuck was sorted with smiles and everyne getting out to push cars as if it was fun. I think that’s one of the reasons they like snow. It makes them nicer to each other. Ours is melting a bit now…but I hope we will get some more soon!

Ani, you are a snow dog! Imagine what you would do in Alaska! Your two-legged would be exhausted from walking you. What a lovely time you had, and great things to see. We also had snow this past weekend, not here but up in Virginia, where we were staying for six days. The trip home was magical – snow coating everything, all the branches and bushes, and then the sun made an appearance through the clouds just as it went down. The winter colors were spectacular – grays, peaches and pinks. I would love to have taken some pictures, but we only stopped in places where my husband could get out a walk easily – mainly gas stations. Ugh.
Do send more pictures when it snows again.

It looked like home until you got to the castle. We are strong in countryside, but very weak in castles. But VERY strong in snowiness!

This may well be all the snow we get …some years, we get none at all, so who knows? The castle is Waddesdon Manor, a Rothschild house given to the National Trust.
