Ani’s Advent Invitation: A letter from Sonu Singh …and a poem from Ritu Bhathal

So… we finally got snow and everything is looking all Christmassy. The trouble is, according to my friends, many of our two-legses think we should look all Christmassy too! And it isn’t just dogs… even cats get tortured! Mind, it would take a brave two-legs to get my boy’s cat dressed up… it has claws and teeth and cattitude, ‘pparently.

Now, being a dog, I can’t say I actually like cats… mainly because they don’t hang around long enough for me to meet them. Apart from the supersillyus snooty one upstairs that just looks at me out of the  window all day. But I do correspond with a few and call them friends. Dogs go on what folks are really like, not how many legs they have, whether they have fur or how they wear their whiskers.

One of my pals is Sonu Singh. And you should hear the dreadful things Sonu has had to endure at the hands of Ritu every year….

Sonu Singh’s Letter…

and a poem from Ritu Bhathal

Hi Ani,

Sorry it’s taken me such a long while to get my letter to you, but that two-legger of mine takes so long on that tappy thing that she forgets that sometimes I need to dictate to her!

Anyway… I just wanted to sympathise with you on the whole dressing up thing.

My two-legger is TERRIBLE! Any opportunity to try and bind me in some strange outfit! Christmas is the worst!

I was young and innocent initially, and I would pose gamely…

But last year, I made a stand, (actually I didn’t stand!) I was not so cooperative!

I am hoping she will refrain from trying to coax me into these ridiculous outfits this year, though I shall share one which I was rather proud of… Not sure I’d fit into it anymore, but I can reminisce about my svelte days here…

I’ll leave you with a poem from her… my two-legger, Ritu. I know she’s good friends with yours!

Christmas Eve is here once more
The wait for Christmas, such a chore!
The presents wrapped, all shopping done
Now I just want the Christmas fun!
With my family, all as one,
Cuddled up with my Hun!
The twinkle in my children’s eyes
As they open each surprise!
The kitten ripping all the paper
Never mind, I’ll tidy later…
The prep, the cooking, table setting
“Is the turkey done?” We’ll be fretting.
Crackers pulled, paper hats askew,
You can tell who’s already had a few!
Dinner eaten, tummies sated
Then to get the pudding plated.

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas, and a fantastic festive season! Xxx

Cheesy films on Christmas telly
Sprouty farts, they’re just too smelly!
Have a drink, a Christmas tipple,
Not too much, just a little!
Time for bed now, little sleepy head!
All wishes granted by the Big Man in Red!
Christmas-time, I love it all!
Merry Christmas one and all!!

Meaowwy Christmas!

Sonu Singh (And Ritu)

If you would like to help save Ani from a fate (she says) worse than death, send your Letters to Santa, festive memories, short stories, flash fiction or poems to the Small Dog. She will post them every day through December until Christmas.

She would especially like to hear from her four-legged or feathered friends (she has a special place very close to her heart for turkeys)… but she says that two-legs are better than none, so she will accept submissions from humans too.

  1. Great post, Ritu and Sue, I love Ritu’s poetry and she has given me some dressing up ideas for my kitty-cat Push-Push.

  2. Great poem, Ritu! We have no desire to die the slow, painful death of the “cat claw” so our 3 stay unadorned. Although, the little female, nearly found herself wearing a coat of water, when I caught her chewing on the tree the other day..

  5. For unexplained reasons, instead of pictures I have things that say “Image 1” “Image 2” etcetera so I am using my imagination this morning. As two-leggeds, we have no current plans to redecorate the doggies — but you never can tell. Should someone gift us with a red tasseled hat, ANYTHING could happen. It’s a two-legged thing. But shhhh … don’t tell the furry ones.

  8. Beautiful poetry Ritu and I must agree with your cat and all other animals; Sometimes people act a little crazy, animals have the most beautiful and natural coat, why cover that? Clothe are for humans without natural fur and for dolls.

    ‘Sprouty farts’! ::snerk:: 😀

… true story we went shopping at Costco today, (which is, I think, like Tesco on your side of the pond) and our receipt-checking guy was an older gent with a bit of a tummy and an impressive white beard, and his name tag said ‘Chris’! 😀
