Photo prompt round-up – Bleak – #writephoto

Bleak

*

Ghosts of war and peace
To sit with both and wonder
Why there is a choice
Waves wash the shore regardless
Eternity in motion

*

Defence and offence
Wreaking grief and destruction
A horror story
Memory denies itself
Whispering tales of glory

*

Time and tide run clean
Following their own purpose
Man but a small thing
The sea-bells toll for the dead
Sorrow unheard in the deep

*

Old magic lingers
Vision sees beyond the veil
Where the two worlds meet
Incense of smoke and seaweed
Carries my dream out to sea

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken at Brean Down, on the south western coast of England, where the Bristol Channel is wide as it joins the sea. Across the estuary, the hills of Wales can be seen on the horizon. The Down is a place I had long wanted to visit…not realising that I already had. Almost, at least.

We had been in Glastonbury for a Silent Eye event, visiting the grave of one of the foremost esoteric teachers of modern times, when a shaft of light had illuminated the distant hills… if ever there was ‘nudge’ in the right direction, that had to be it. So, as soon as we were able, we headed west, towrads a hill with a history as long as anyone could wish for.

We climbed Brent Knoll and visited the church there, before climbing yet another hill, one with a truly magical story to tell, to the Fort at Brean Down where this week’s prompt photo was taken.

As always, I would like to thank  everyone for their contibutions. I love seeing how many different stories and poems can be born from one image. I managed to share as most of the contributions this week, but all the posts are listed below, please click on the links below to read them and leave a comment for the author! A new prompt will be published later today and I will reblog as many as I can through the week  and all contributions will be featured in the round-up on Thursday.

If you have written a post for this challenge and it does not appear in the round-up, please leave a link to your post in the comments and I will add it to the list.

Come and join in!

The booming bells of the ocean…even in the photo, you can hear them. Thanks for all the context, Sue. It’s interesting how many responses captured the spirits. (K)
