It is amazing to me how sometimes a prompt will result in an immediate idea and flow of words. Like a tap being turned on. Other times a bit of effort is required. Occasionally, I find, I just don’t feel inspired and then I leave it. Forced writing is never work that I am ultimately pleased with. Happily, when I saw this divine photograph, this entire poem popped into my head, almost fully formed.
My mind’s eye
I reflect on my life
through my mind’s eye
Inspecting
Seeking
I open secret drawers
rummaging through
their hidden contents.
My childhood
A time of happiness
Innocence
and laughter.
My teenage years
I gently probe
Pulling out memories
Like old clothes
from the cupboard of time.
I run my eye over them
looking for rents,
tears and wrinkles.
