Guest author: Victoria Zigler – The Degu Books

I love all animals – especially dogs, cats, horses, and rodents – But my absolute favourite animal is a lion.  There’s just something about the majestic big cats that appeals to me.

As much as I’d love to have a special bond with such a creature, I know I could never have one as a pet though, so I have other animals as pets instead.  Among them a group of four male degus who star in my Degu Days Duo – a duology of semi-fictionalized stories detailing two days in their lives, and told from Jenks’ point of view.  Jenks being one of my boys, as you no doubt guessed.

Jenks has crossed the rainbow bridge now – gone to the place where beloved pets go to await the day when they will be reunited with the humans they loved in life – along with two of his brothers, Jasper and Jacob.

Our remaining degu, Joshua, struggled to deal with the three of them leaving, and it broke the bond of trust between us; he seemed convinced my hubby or I had done something to make his brothers disappear.  He still doesn’t fully trust us the way he used to, but most of his trust in me has returned (he seems more reluctant to trust hubby again).  You can read how I went about regaining his trust in “How To Trust Your Human” – my newest degu book, which is the story of my attempts to regain Joshua’s trust, told by him under his nickname of Buddy.  “Buddy” being the name I always used for my boys if I either wasn’t sure which I was dealing with, or was referring to all four at once.

There’s another degu book too, which was written after the Degu Days Duo, but before Joshua – or Buddy, if you prefer – told his story.  That one is a completely fictional story inspired by an unlocked cage door, and a degu’s attempt at taking advantage of it.

You can read all four of them as eBooks or paperbacks, and now – thanks to narrator James Watkins – you can also listen to them in audio.

Regardless of the format you’d prefer, if you’d like to grab copies and explore the world from the point of view of a small and furry rodent, here are the main places where you can buy these and all Victoria’s books books:

I love animals too, especially lions, wolves, elephants and gorillas. Rodents not so much unless cute ones like degus, hamsters and guinea pigs. Trouble is they don’t live long enough.
