It’s been a while, what with one thing and another. First she blew up the computer, then the interwebby thing stopped working… and now, well… I can’t keep track of her. She’s in and out like a yo-yo.
You wouldn’t believe what she gets up to either! She seems to forget that being a dog, I have a Nose. I am a specialist detector. You two-legses think you are pretty good at smelling stuff out, but you really can’t beat a dog. Those receptor thingys in our noses? We have fifty times more of them than you…and they count ’em in millions! And, ‘pparently, the bit of our brain stuff that works them is forty times as big as yours. We can make a pretty accurate picture of what you’ve been up to, you know. So if she thinks she can fool me, she’s very much mistaken. I know she’s been playing with cats.
Just think about it… here’s me, all alone with the fish and my toy box… and let me tell you, the fish are no good at playing. At least, not with me. “Won’t be long, girlie,” she says. “Just off to work…” And what’s she doing? Playing with cats.
It was bad enough when there was just the one to worry about. But I have a Nose that tells me there are at least another two of them! She finally admitted to it too… Strays, she says, or somebody else’s cats who just come for cuddles and food… A likely story.! Would she be pointing that camera thingy at strays? Then she tells me it isn’t her fault… it’s one of my boys who’s been acquiring cats! Where did I go wrong? Didn’t I raise him right? Why would he want to go over to the dark side? It’s depressing.
I mean, I’m still not over the whole lost ball fiasco. She’s tried really hard… Fair’s fair, she’s done her best. She’s thrown every single ball she can find… She’s tried them one at a time. She’s tried a few…and a lot… but I can’t seem to find one that works, you know? I’ve done my best, and chased a few, but now I’m feeling bad for her. She’s only a two-legs, after all, she doesn’t really understand. She thinks that if it bounces, it does work. But there is more to choosing a new ball than that. Maybe when the ball guy comes again, I’ll be able to choose. I am trying…honest.
So, between cats and balls and all this gadding about that she’s doing, I was feeling a bit down. In need of some comfort. And just when she should be settling down for cuddles, she puts the pink thing on and says goodnight. Not that she can escape that easily… If the puppy eyes don’t work, there’s always the teeth.
A bit of gentle tugging gets her back on the sofa, and her hands in my ears where they belong. Finally, I’m getting her attention properly. For a couple of days she was really attentive. She even gave me her macaroni cheese! Well, technically ‘give’ is the wrong word. But she wouldn’t really have wanted it back one she’d dropped it , would she? So I thought I’d help by cleaning up. And how does she thank me for that? She disappears again and comes back smelling of something even more dangerous than cats… puppies. A two-legs grand-puppy. So while one of my boys has got waylaid by cats, the other one is having puppies. No wonder she is never still!
So I’ve got my own puppy out of the toy box to keep me company. Trouble is, there’s no fun squeaking it when she’s not around to hear…
And it’s been raining for ages…
I hope things get back to normal soon…
Much love,
Ani xxx
Duke sends his sincere condolences. Especially about the ball. His problem is that he can’t figure out what ball is the right one. And it’s hard taking over the place when there are other dogs that have a solid stake, but he’s working at it. He tried to keep us on the straight and narrow, but we keep getting distracted. It’s so hard being canine isn’t it?

Dear Ani – MY two-legged NOT entertaining Cats, but seriously! I left a dishtowel in middle of her path, to let her know, I want to play, and she came up from ‘work’ sea about 6 hours later and said, “Oh! Dear Ani – While your two legged typed to my two-legged, I realized – here I lie, patiently waiting for MY two-legged to quit ‘working’ – only reason I still love her is, her stomping, cursing over, “BAH! Tech World! They launch stuff/promise it will work” faster than they can actually fulfill!…” – and so – – here – soon – she will log off, say to heck with it, via “They said so, NOT so, and I’m done, for today….who cares? ” LOL – and she’ll put on music, ask me if I want to dance, play ‘chase” if I want to, OR pat my head and say, “Sorry – it’s late – lost track of time…are you asleep?!?” My two legged typing just now and totally, completely, putting her own projection/layer of understanding, onto such things…sigh – – May she someday grow up to be all I hoped for her… LOL

Poor Ani feeling put upon and neglected too. My Silver had to put up with a new puppy, now they are best friends. But Ani it could be worse my Silver lives with 5 cats [They were here first] who have dibs on me. Give your boys and your person a little leeway they will get it together.

Well when silver arrived he was a ball of fluff that was about the same size as my smallest cat. All of whom had been raised with a really sweet German Shepard so they took the furry bouncy little beast in strides. He took all of their toys chewed up there catnip mice..they still tolerate him, he is 3 now so no longer in the bouncy puppy stage, We have Moon a female 19 month old husky for that.

She still has her puppy charm. So she will be making things interesting for you for quite a while. Even though Silver has calmed he is still rambunctious and he and Moon wrestle and tear through the house together while the cats and I just watch most of the time. The method to my madness is that with a playmate for Silver things are just a tiny bit calmer for the cats and I.

I am sympathizing Ani. Just this morning I was barking at the window to tell the two legs that a cat dared to walk on the pavement. Did they give me a treat for alerting them? No. Just get down Dante, stop that, Dante. Hmmph. I am sads too that you haven’t found the one ball yet. I’d send you down one of mine but I knows how it has to be just the right one. Much paw love Ani, Dante the Dog. xxx

Oh, Ani, you’ve been having such a tough time recently. I was thinking you and the cat might learn to get on okay but if there are three of them it might be more difficult. However, you will LOVE the new two-legs puppy and have fun together when she’s grown a bit.

Ani, I would bet that if you were to meet those cats (horrible thought, I know) just briefly (with best manners, of course), your nose would be able to tell you with one she had been playing with and how long ago. They are seductive creatures for many of us two-leggeds. I hope you manage to find a proper new ball soon, the right one. You will both feel better then.

Poor Ani! I hope things get back to normal for you soon. These human creatures are really hard to train right, aren’t they? I’m trying to train mine right from the start, but they’re just not that great at listening. They also spend too much time on the computer thing. They say they’re “working” and that it’s stuff they have to get done, but I think they should spend more time playing, or going walkies, and less time working.
Lots of licks,

Love reading the dog’s point of view, but I have to comment on the top photo of the white-bellied tabby cat. I used to have a cat that looked almost identical, except my Eskimo had a smaller mask on her face and she was thinner (spent her nights catching mice outdoors to impress me). Alas, I had to have her put down when she was but a year old–over twenty years ago. Still hurts. Reblogged from https://scvincent.com

Why don’t you like cats, Ani? I’m a cat and Angel, rest her soul, thought I was a dog! We even played, sort of. Anyway, I’ve been out of sorts since she went away. Give them a chance. Sorry you can’t find just the right tennis ball – I know how it is to be picky, oops, selective. Maybe try them just one at a time and only one a day? What do I know? I don’t like balls…anyway, don’t worry, Your two-legged loves you.

Hey Elijah,
My problem with the cats I’ve met so far is that they are all hiss and claws… I’m sure there are many like you with a more tolerant outlook, but not in my corner of the world, it seems.
As to the ball… well, the ball guy came and as the only way he was going to do his duty was if I picked a ball… I had to settle on one at last. A bit of grooming and it is almost right 😉 xxx

We get a lot of attention cause our two-legged is retired & around a lot! We can relate to the yo-yo in and out when she goes shopping though. Hope you find your fav ball one of theses days!
