You’ll have heard that they lost my favourite ball… the one I’ve had for ages… Well, she keeps trying to replace it with fakes. She’ll hold out a green thing that looks like my ball… and for a moment I think she’s found it…
Then she’ll throw it and and try to con me into playing with it. But you know, she just doesn’t get it. It’s not my ball…
It’s all new and clean. It doesn’t smell right. It isn’t chewed and fluffy. It doesn’t even taste the same…
But I accept it, sort of, ’cause I know she’s still feeling guilty…
Chasing it though, that;s not really going to happen. I’m sorry, I know it’s upsetting her, but you know…it’s not my ball. Mind, just in case my never reappears, I’m not letting her risk losing this one…
What do you mean ‘guilt trip’? There are consequences to losing a ball… you have to have your two-legses well trained… and she’ll get over it.
You know the drill. Discipline, that’s the thing. Be consistent.
It works both ways, you know… and right now she’s feeling consistently guilty.
I’ll let her off. Eventually.
Much love, Ani xxx
You know, when he talked about a guilt trip, he could have been a cat.

Aw, poor doggie. I remember when I had to give up my dog to one of my best friends (I was leaving the country). I gave her so many worn out toys. I told her to make sure she kept them, because those were the ones he loved most.

I know what you mean Ani. I lost all my ‘babies’ in the move. All of them. I’ve got another now, but it’s not the same. What is though is that my Mum and Daddy still love me, but I have this thing with my eyes………… works every time and I get an extra treat! 🙂 Maggie.

I can do the eyes thing too… mainly all I have to do is stand by the treat cupboard and look pointedly at her though 😉 xxx

Quite right. Hang tough Ani. You’ll both be better for your firm stance. And their guilt often leads to food treats with mine. Chicken anyone? Love Mylo

Oh, Ani, you’re being a bit too hard on your two-legs now. She’s been feeling so guilty for ages – time to let her off the hook and play nice.

she’s doing the best she can, ani. you know the two legs, don’t have anything close to the level of instincts that the four legs have. maybe just one more day of sulking and then give her a break. you may still find your ball one day, and that will be a bonus )

I have learned to perfect that ‘hang dog’ expression to send my humans on a guilt trup. I see, you are pretty good at it too, Ani. I do think your two-legs has suffered enough now though, she did try her best to find it. Love Roxy xxx🐾🐾🐾

You’re quite right, Ani. The humans have to learn, and if we don’t train them, who will? They just don’t seem to get it about how something that looks the same isn’t the same though; they just don’t seem to understand about the scents and tastes. I’m justill st a puppy, but I get it better than they do. Anyway, keep it up. I’ve noticed guilty feeling humans are quicker to hand out extra treats and play time,. I know that’s not the same as having your favourite ball back, but it might help a little.
Lots of licks,
Lilie

OKay Ani, I think we know you’re really appreciative of the new ball and meaning to get used to it. We all have to accept things we love and lose and move on. I think you’re realizing that now. And who knows, maybe the old one will turn up one day and you’ll be more interested in the one you have now. 🙂 ❤

We work so hard to make our four-footed pals happy, but they are so PICKY. Gee whiz. We went away for 3 days and came home to sulky dogs, mad at us for not being there. We’ve done our best for them, but they are definitely pissed off at both of us. How DARE we!

Oh Ani, I’m so sorry you haven’t found your ball. I know how hard it is to move on when something we love is missing. I hope it shows up soon, but two legs is doing her best to make up for losing it. Love and hugs and belly rubs, Ani.
