Switching gear

Writing, for me, is a creative expression of life. I would hate for it to become a chore or an obligation. It needs experience as its fuel and, while there may be a rich inner life upon which a writer can draw, that too needs experience and experiences to form its foundation.

I’m off on my travels again. This time, it will  be the Silent Eye’s informal workshop in Wales with a few as-yet-undecided extras thrown in for good measure.

Normally, before I hit the road, I will schedule  a fair number of posts to keep the blog warm in my absence. While I have scheduled a few and will be reblogging the writephoto responses as and when internet access permits, I have not written a huge amount for while I am away this time.

There has been a lot of travelling and a lot of events over the last couple of months, as well as a fair amount of ill-health…and I am feeling the proverbial pinch. Medication that kept me awake at night for weeks has finally come home to roost and, for the past few days, as soon as I have come home from work, a ‘ten minute rest’ curled up with the small dog, has suddenly dreamed its way through several hours of the day.

Now, I could stay up all night, feverishly writing to fulfil my self imposed requirements. But that is the thing… they are self imposed, and not required and I would be a fool to think they were of any real importance.

On these pages, I am a blogger. I take that commitment seriously, put in a lot of work… and have a lot of fun with it too. But in spite of the amazing privilege of regular readers and friends, no-one is hanging on the every word of any blogger,  no life and death issue depends upon what appears on the screen. We are no more than drops in a boundless ocean of words and, were any of us to disappear completely, that ocean would soon fill the gap, leaving no trace of our presence or absence.

Therefore, I am taking my own advice, listening to my body and what it is telling me, and changing gear for a few days. I mention this only because there are friends who will wonder and possibly worry if I am not around as much as usual.

There will be old posts to ponder, new haiku and a few other odds and sods along the way. I will answer comments and emails as and when internet access allows and will share some posts from other writers… but as for me, I’m slowing down for a meander through the hills. Which should mean that I will have an awul lot to share when I get back 🙂

About Sue Vincent

Sue Vincent was a Yorkshire born writer, esoteric teacher and a Director of The Silent Eye. She was immersed in the Mysteries all her life. Sue maintained a popular blog and is co-author of The Mystical Hexagram with Dr G.M.Vasey. Sue lived in Buckinghamshire, having been stranded there due to an accident with a blindfold, a pin and a map. She had a lasting love-affair with the landscape of Albion, the hidden country of the heart. Sue  passed into spirit at the end of March 2021.

Yeah, Sue . . . what everybody else said! Focus on the “now” during your trip, and come home feeling rejuvenated. Or at least, tired in a pleasurable way. We’ll still be here when you return. And remember to have fun! 🙂 ❤

    Hi Sue,
I hope you have a great trip. If you get a chance, say hello to Hugh for me. Get some need rest.

I love this: “But in spite of the amazing privilege of regular readers and friends, no-one is hanging on the every word of any blogger…” It reminds me of what I use to tell my staff. No one is indespenable, it takes a team to make it work.

  21. Your health is more important than the number of blog posts you provide, so if you feel you need to take a step back, take it. Enjoy yourself, recharge your batteries, and take as long as you need doing so.
