I am a small mosquito
And my task is not the best…
To be a nuisance all my life
And be a perfect pest.
It isn’t really all my fault
When deep within the night
You wake to find I had a snack
And left a nasty bite.
I need the stuff that’s in your blood
I have none of my own…
That’s just the way that I was made
And so the seed was sown.
I am the perfect predator
No tiger bite can beat
The stealth attack that gets to feed
Yet leaves you on your feet.
I’m made by Mother Nature,
Working to her own design…
So when you try to squash me flat,
Recall…the fault’s not mine.
I can’t turn vegetarian,
That’s not the way I’m made,
A mozzie needs her sustenance,
The Piper must be paid.
We may surpass our natures,
But we can’t be what we’re not…
The rules of our existence
Are the only ones we’ve got.
So judge me not too harshly,
When you hear that whining buzz…
I am just obeying Nature
Doing what a mozzie does.
They’re nothing here… not like the Kenya or India ones!!!

They are bad enough when they leave a bite the size of a small volcano 😗

Not so many around this neck of the woods, thankfully…but they all seem to know where I live 🙂

You do that sort of stuff so well, Sue. It’s so easy flowing and on the face of it, deceptively simple. But in fact, you have to have a real instinctive feel for the flow and cadence of words to do it as well as that. Great.

Thanks, Jeff. I grew up on a diet of Marriott Edgar, Weston and Lee and the like… and I still think in their rhythms a lot of the time.

🙂 I can’t help thinking of that quote, “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”

I’ve plenty of blood, Mr Mozzie, and I’d be happy to spare you a drop – but do you have to leave a horrendous itching lump in return? It’s like me going into the supermarket and paying for my food with a slap in the face! 😉

Love the poem but not the mozzies – and definitely not the midges which were out in force here tonight.
