Photo prompt round up – Derelict #writephoto

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. We visited the island one January day, just as the tide was about to cut the island off from the mainland for several hours. There were no tourists no crowds…just a rose-gold sunset over the ancient Abbey and the sea. The derelict building was tucked away in the corner of a field where we were watching the birds and a pair of kestrels.

Between absence from the computer and illness, I have not shared as many posts as I would have liked this week. I have also noticed that pingbacks are not always getting through. Derelict

The crazing of tissue-paper skin

Wears memories

No-one remembers.

Wrinkles trace a story

No-one reads…

Forgotten tears

And laughter shared in love.

They do not speak;

The shadow people,

Old and discarded,

No-one hears.

Bodies once sharpened

By passion

And countless tomorrows,

Now count the pills

To break the silence.

Their fire has died,

Their hearths are empty,

For want of care.

Their gaze turns inwards

Seeing a time their lips have lost

When no-one came.

Empty houses,

Once warm and welcoming,

Broken by neglect

And peopled by ghosts

That remember summer.

You are my home

And I will not forget.
