A good ducking

We stopped for elevenses in the form of a nice Cornish pasty… and were mobbed. There is no other way to say it. We went hunting ducklings, armed, I must stress, with no more than some duck-seed and our cameras… and we were mobbed.

The mallards were the worst offenders… no shame at all. Sitting or standing, we were stood upon. Nibbled.

Investigated.

And eventually …approved. At least as a source of food.

The robins seemed to aprove too.

But then, there are always robins, wherever we go…

Chaffinches too…

They all seemed quite happy to dine with us. But…those nice crispy duck pancakes? It’s not going to happen… that’s another thing off my list.

  2. How wonderful. Apparently there are several families of new ducklings on the marina, but obviously we haven’t seen them as we normally would. It was nice to see the cygnets the other day though. At the moment, I am content to listen to the excited chatter of the fledgling sparrows in the gables opposite and watch the blackbirds feeding their babies on the fence.

  9. No duck pancakes, huh? The more we spend time with the other wonderful creatures of the planet, the harder to see them as food. Cute photos. It looks like great fun 😀

  10. As you can imagine I loved this post. I love a good Cornish Pasty, or almost any Cornish pasty to be honest and, of course, crispy duck is not my menu, although I used to love it in days of yore

  15. What a wonderful way to be mobbed! I’m horribly allergic to duck, so i’m no threat to any of the little feathered honeys.
