She got up this morning and squeaked. She’s not supposed to squeak, but it seemed about all she could manage. She tried a whisper, but that didn’t work out too well either… more of a frog sound… so she’s pretty quiet this morning, though there seems to be a lot of groaning going on. Serves her right for spending so much time on the phone when she should have been playing with me.
That’s bad enough, but there are strange things going on. My boy… the one who has allowed a cat into his life… he seems to have lost the plot. He’s phoning her up to talk about the thing. He’s even sending her pictures of the fatuous feline!
Once upon a time, he was all mine. There was no doubt about that at all. Now? It just keeps going from bad to worse. He’s started whispering when he phones… but not because he’s lost his voice, oh no… It’s so he doesn’t wake the cat! It’s okay to disturb my dreams with phones ringing at all hours, but Heaven forbid he disturbs the paltry puss!
She says she keeps finding cushions on the floor too. Not even because the moggy has been playing either. You can have epic games with a few cushions…
But no, she suspects he is putting them down on the floor. I wonder why? Maybe it has to do with the fact he’s dragging another chair out for himself ’cause someone is asleep in his?
That just shows you, doesn’t it? He’s been corrupted already… That’s the basic difference between us dogs and them. We’re loyal, eager to please, always ready to play. They’re spiteful, spitty kitties half the time, with more claws and teeth than anyone needs. They just ignore you when you bark talk to them. Then they’re suddenly your best friends and go all gooey and kittenish and fragile and need cuddles. They like to keep you on your toes. We like to keep you on the sofa.
I chase the birds, but only to play. They stalk them and try to catch them. And the fish! I wouldn’t dream of trying to catch fish, though I’ll go and swim with them any time!
This thing prowls around the pond, watching… waiting… and I don’t think it would go down too well if it got its claws out. Mind you, the big sturgeon might give it what for…
So, we’re sort of complete opposites. ‘Cept we’re both furry and black and white. And we’re both animals. With tails… and two-legses to look after.
“The same sun shines on you both,” she says (when she can say anything at all). “You both have you own jobs to do.” I s’ppose she’s right. I can’t be in two places at once, no matter how I try… and she needs me here mostly. I don’t know how she’d manage without me, what with the postman turning up every day and all the things that go bump in the night.
I wish he’d have got a dog though. Instead. We could have made friends and played together. Can’t see that happening with old Puss in Boots…
A dog would be much more fun. Say, a nice, handsome retriever or a big, noble setter…
Ah well, a girl can dream…
Much love,
Ani
xxx
Oh Ani poor you! I know these kitties can be selfish… but you have your own love that no one else can give her and your boy. Don’t you worry. You’ll never be replaced xxx

Poor Ani! Aunt Peggy’s cat is no fun AT ALL either. She runs and hides every time we visit. I hope your boy comes to his senses and starts paying more attention where it’s due – where it’s wanted – and where it’s appreciated! (and we all know where that is, don’t we?)
Mom says that’s the way with boys — they always want the critters most who ignore them most (some instinct to chase, or something). Two legs! Can’t understand ’em, can’t live without ’em.
Mom says to tell your Mom she hopes her voice comes back soon. (That squeaking sounds awful! I hope it doesn’t hurt.)

My Mom works at home for now – but she keeps saying she needs to think about getting some kind of outside job to buy my dog food and keep a roof over my head. How much does that stuff cost, anyway? And what’s wrong with being under HER roof?
I don’t get those 2-legs and how much they like that work stuff. I just like to eat, play, cuddle and sleep. Who needs more?

The mostly college students in my neck of these apartment-dominated “woods” near a great many campuses here, are way too cool to want to chat over fences.
The only ones willing to talk to me at all live in my building or recognize Tink from his Cheers Bar (and then they talk to him not me!!)

Bummer! I really miss how easy it was to develop community in NYC – unusually welcoming to transplants, despite its reputation.
Oh well, virtual chatting fills in the gaps nicely.

I empathize with you Ani. I’m allergic, so I have an excuse not to have one, but it seems that everyone on the internet finds them adorable. We had an outdoor cat for a long while, and there was no need to bother with a litter box or anything of that sort, so it was tolerable. Dogs rule. Don’t you ever forget that!

Don’t you worry, Ani, nothing can replace the love of a dog. We humans like to have other animals around sometimes, but a dog is… Well, special. There’s no other word for it. Your boy knows that, I’m sure.

Give it time Ani. All of us in this household have had to put up with the cats. There’s only one now, so it’s easier, but HE likes to sleep in the middle of my dog bed and his beds are too small for me. The best thing to do is ignore the cat. They don’t go away, but it’s less stressful. Hugs, Angel

Poor Ani. It’s time you learn to share. Has the kitty attacked you or taken your toys? You two c.a.n. be friends. Just give it time. I have to admit, the kitty is pretty–not as gorgeous as you, of course. ❤

Bugger! … Our white stuff from before Christmas is still on the ground, and our daily temperature highs are still below freezing. (this is extremely unusual for the Lower Mainland, the snow only lasts a day or three before it melts away completely)
Maybe If I huff-and-puff I can blow some east across Canada and the Atlantic and into your backyard … stranger things have happened. 😀

One of my two-legs is allergic to cats, so if it all gets too much then you can come and live with me, Ani 😀 The cold storage box thing in the kitchen always has cheese in it. However, I’m not sure your two-legs would be happy with you packing your bags and coming to live in Wales. I think she needs looking after and you’re perfect for doing that.
