What can I say?

There are many, including my nearest and dearest, who say that I need help. It is not generally a complimentary statement, though it is occasionally tinged with fond indulgence. This time, however, I am bound to admit that they have a point.

I’ve been tasked with answering one of those questions we all hate answering… the ones where we never know where to start. And I have to write a decent answer. Fast.

The Daily Echo has been nominated for the UK Blog Awards 2017 in the Arts and Culture category. Even just writing that stopped me in my tracks again! You should have seen me when the notification came! I had to check out the links in the email before I dared click through… it seemed too good to be true.

To whoever who nominated the blog… if you read this.. THANK YOU!

Now I have to create a profile for the blog. It is a prestigious award and there will be so many wonderful blogs when it comes to the public vote, that even just being nominated makes me feel like a winner. Even so, I feel I should do the best I can when it comes to presenting this one.

Which is where I need your help.

I have to write an overview of the blog…and I don’t know where to start. ‘Eclectic’ would cover everything, but it says little and isn’t very interesting. And anyway, writing isn’t about what the writer thinks… it is about what you, the reader, thinks. There is no life in words without a reader.

So I thought I would ask you.

I’m not fishing for compliments here. There are people who have been with these pages a very long time, many have become friends… and every day there are new followers. There must be a reason for that…

So, how do I describe this blog? Any ideas?

Thank you so much for all the ideas… and thank you even more for the comments themselves. I have used both to create the entry profile, which is now complete. This community is too much a part of this blog not to take you all with me.

Sue Vincent was a Yorkshire born writer, esoteric teacher and a Director of The Silent Eye. She was immersed in the Mysteries all her life. Sue maintained a popular blog and is co-author of The Mystical Hexagram with Dr G.M.Vasey. Sue lived in Buckinghamshire, having been stranded there due to an accident with a blindfold, a pin and a map. She had a lasting love-affair with the landscape of Albion, the hidden country of the heart. Sue  passed into spirit at the end of March 2021.

    You have many high points that I’m sure will be pointed out for you, but be sure to mention that, in addition to those posts, you willingly share your platform with re-blogs, as well as having actual guest posts. I don’t know how much you can blow your own horn in an overview, but that generosity says a lot about you and your blog.

      Thank you, Ken. That blowing my own horn is where I’m stuck. I’m supposed to. And then I have to write a ‘why vote for me?’ but too!

      To me, sharing the space here is just being part of the community. I’ve been helped often enough by others it seems the natural thing to do.

    Hmm, not real sure about a description. A bit of history, a bit of mystery, fiction and family. The world sometimes seen through the lens of humor, sometimes from the prehistoric past and occasionally even from the eyes of a small dog. A walk across the moor, a bit of ancient lore, a poem or two and the world from your point of view. Fantastical fiction and mundane daily life, the best of times and the worst of tragedies. I’m not sure. How do -you- describe your blog?

    I think of your blog as the line in the sand between just existing and actually living. You challenge your readers–and yourself–every day and every post to come down firmly, joyfully, and occasionally painfully on the side of life fully lived.

    That award? Nice, but I think you’ve already won.

    Eclectic is for sure the first thing that comes to mind for me. Reality, fiction, fantasy, humor, history, poetry, photography, heart, personal expression. Your blog is so worthy of a daily visit, so proud to know you. Congrats on the award nomination, Sue. ❤️

    Congratulations on the nomination, Sue. Well-deserved. Not sure I can help with your overview. I can’t remember when I first found your blog. I think you were writing a series about old churches which I found fascinating and I signed up. Since then you’ve taken me on some wonderful journeys whether tramping round churches, stone circles or across moors (you in your ballet shoes me in a pair of slippers, cup of coffee on my desk). Your posts often make me stop and reflect on life and love, on spirituality and they often make me smile. From the first time I tentatively left a comment I’ve felt as though I became a welcome part of your life. Through your blog I’ve met some wonderful people. And, of course, there’s Ani! 🙂 She deserves at least a good chunk of cheese and a couple of sausages for her contribution.

      Ani is too busy even for cheese at the moment… a hot air balloon is in her airspace and she is creating WWIII single-pawed.
      The thing is, I love taking everyone with me onto the moors and into the old places… I enjoy it too much to need any award that that. But the community here is something special. x

    I’d describe your blog as Universal…….. it covers so many different aspects and topics from a variety of angles and outlooks, you involve your readers and followers with challenges and those amazing photoprompts, you introduce the human element with compassion and sensitivity, you have humour, poetry, and of course Ani. What isn’t there to like/ respond to/ get involved in?

    I come here for the stones! 😀 … seriously though, I second what everyone else has said 🙂

    … what I mean about the ‘stones’ is … bit of a story coming up … I was born in in Rochford, (Essex – so it says in my birth certificate) and my parents (and I) emigrated to Australia when I was two.

    I have no conscious memories of anything other than OZ, but unconsciously? Oh my, what a wonderful landscape it was. As I grew I thought the attraction I felt towards all things northern hemisphere-y was because like most ex-pats, I suspect, my parents steeped my childhood in their own reminiscences … but as I grew into my own spiritual path, I realised it was because I was physically separate from my ancestral roots, the Land of my ancestors. That realisation helped me be OK with living in Australia, until I moved here to Canada … Northern Hemisphere, at last! 🙂 … it’s beautiful and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else (as far as I know) but still, it isn’t the same.

    What I get when you walk among the stones and share those stories here, is a wonderful (and a bit heartache-y) sense of Home. 🙂

      I know what you mean, though on a smaller scale. I lived in France for many years…and loved every second of it. But the moors had their hands in my gut and twisted, pulling me home. Sounds melodramatic, but thats how it was. I think we are born attuned to our own land, in tune with it…maybe something in the particular frequency of the geology. Maybe something deeper too. No matter how happy you are elsewhere, the land is in your very bones.
