Dappled sunlight filtered through the canopy of young beech leaves. They should never have been allowed to encroach upon the old place, but even so, they added a quiet charm to the crumbling buildings and rusting iron.
He wondered how long it had been since the stream had raced and the wheels had turned.
He was glad to have seen the place again. The sound of distant laughter raised the echo of a smile, conjuring half forgotten memories. A good place for children. A good place to live…
The thought faded with him into the mist…
