“We who make stories know that we tell lies for a living. But they are good lies that say true things, and we owe it to our readers to build them as best we can. Because somewhere out there is someone who needs that story. Someone who will grow up with a different landscape, who without that story will be a different person. And who with that story may have hope, or wisdom, or kindness, or comfort. And that is why we write.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book
Éilis, whose poetry and writing you can find on The Sound of What Happens, tagged me in the Three Quote Challenge. First, you thank the person who tagged you. Then, post a quote you love on three consecutive days. Choose another person to carry on, if they so choose and have the time. Today I challenge invite Steve Tanham, who is free to accept or decline as he so chooses, of course.
So true about making stories.

I love that quote, Sue. I never thought of us a liars, or that someone might need that good lie.

Every story can change a viewpoint or a world for its reader. I’ve always known that, but had a perfect illustration of it when ‘mere’ sci-fi novel gave me the clues to my son’s recovery.

I really like this one. 🙂 I stand firm in thinking as he says, that all stories need to be told as we cannot know who needs to hear them… or read them.
