Keepers of the Planetary Flame

nick north days 032
I came across the Keepers of the Planetary Flame some years ago via Coleston Brown, author of many esoteric books including Secrets of a Faery Landscape and The Mystery of the Seven Directions (with Gareth Knight). I joined the group in, I believe, 2008 and the simple, daily practice became part of my life.

The woman who was doing much of the admin for the group and sending out the newsletter became a close friend, one of that handful of very special people who waltz into your heart and take up permanent residence.

When my son was attacked and left for dead, the individuals who make up the KPF rallied round and messages, prayers and healing were sent from across the planet; messages I treasure still. Their kindness and care made a huge difference when things were at their worst for my family, and as my son recovered I read him the messages they, and members of the esoteric community worldwide, had sent and it showed him that people do care. That is the whole point of this loose community… to care for the earth and those who share its life.

Perhaps you would like to join us?

There is no requirement for anything at all except a few minutes a day spent in quiet contemplation.

You can find the group on Facebook here and join the discussions and companionship there, or simply join us in thought.

My friend, Sheila Browning, takes care of the group and writes:

The Keepers of the Planetary Flame (KPF) are a loose collection of individuals united by a common purpose and core practice. The KPF was first started in the early 1980’s by Gareth Knight.

It was at that time a ground-breaking effort not only for its linking of people together internationally, but for its focus on mediating the power of the stellar fire or earth star at the centre of the planet. This great spiritual energy or presence, which could be thought of as the planetary heart, is central to the well-being of our planet and all that live upon it.

For various reasons the first attempt at this work did not continue past the mid-eighties, though it is remembered by many of us who participated in it as a vivid and powerful experience. I am happy to say that Gareth Knight has agreed to let us take up the work of the Keepers of the Planetary Flame once more, and so I extend this invitation to you.

There is no requirement for participation other than to spend a few minutes each day on the core practice, which is described below. This practice encapsulates the purpose of the KPF, which is to bring spiritual energy through from the light of the stars and the deep earth and to allow it to work within our mortal realm.

Core Practice

“You will need a stone (or crystal) and a candle. Place your stone before the candle. Light the flame and be aware how it is an expression of the fire at the centre of our planet, of the sun, and of the starry regions around us.

Be aware of your stone as ultimately originating in the stars. Feel its connection to the land you live on and the processes of flowing fire within the earth.

Be aware of others who participate in this work and sense a field or network of spiritual energies linking us all together. Along these lines of connection, and up from the centre of the planet through your stone and flame, and from the stars, great streams of spiritual power and light flow and move.

Hold this awareness and attunement as long as feels right. Then blow out your candle, being aware that what you have set in motion is still running through the mortal realm.”

I love the idea of cosmic connection, the energy rippling outward. How shocking about your son! How terrifying that must have been for you. I am so happy to hear that he recovered physically and hopefully mentally. What a trial to come through. Blessings.

It is a beautiful, simple practice, Eliza and it was a lovely thing to ‘meet’ the whole group worldwide through their support.
My son is mentally as sharp as a needle, though memory can be a little unreliable. He cannot walk, however and his sight, balance and coordination are badly damaged.
And he’s still jumping out of an aeroplane for charity shortly…
