Notes from a small dog XXXVIII

004

We’re not talking, me and her.

I mean, I ask you… she’s barely back from one jaunt when she buggers off on another. That’s not too bad, I suppose, except she keeps coming back smelling of such interesting places … and friends… and sheep… and something she said was the sea… and I know she’s seen the ball guy whatever she says…. She’s even seen some of my old friends, but does she bring them back to see me? No… well, not all of them.

Does she take me with her? No. She witters on about me not behaving well enough to go with her… or says dogs aren’t allowed where she’s going… Does she think I don’t read her blog? I heard about the Black Lurcher and the whippets on the table… She needs to come up with a better excuse than that!

Still, I did get to stay with Gooch and co again, and that was cool. And when she finally came home and got me, she did bring one of my friends back with her. Didn’t take me long to remind my friend about the tennis ball thing… and to be fair, she’s pretty darned good. Nice lady, that one. Knows all about the principles of sharing cheese and chicken. In fact, I got quite attached to her and kept singing to her till she came downstairs to play every day.

‘Course, the pair of them went out to play a lot without me the past few days too. The only explanation I got for that one was that I’m probably not a good idea ‘round deer and squirrels… whatever they are. But they’d come home and play till bedtime, so I could let them off for that. I let them take turns with the ball… it was cool.

Which, of course, is why I am not speaking to her.

Off they went this morning again, and she’s lost her. She always does that! Just when I get used to having someone else to play with she grabs their bags, takes people out and forgets to bring them back!

Doesn’t matter that she leaked again and wanted cuddles… I mean, she caught me on the hop when she came in, before I realised she’d done it again… but when my friend didn’t reappear I got the picture. Hrmph!

She says she’ll come back, though… and maybe I’ll see the ball guy soon. It’s been a while.

They say elephants don’t forget. Can’t comment on that myself. But I don’t. I’m a dog. Dogs never forget their people and never stop loving them. The ball guy got that right in my book, Giants Dance… It’s all about Anu and the Ball of Power…well, it should be… I’m the best bit… but they had to go and put all sorts of other stuff in there too. Anyway, the ball guy says love is a lot like my tennis balls…

Speaking of which, I may not be speaking to her, but that’s no 002reason she shouldn’t play ball…

Much love,
Ani xxx
