Notes from a small dog XXXV

ani3Good morning people!

Well, it is here… really cold and frosty though, and we were out before five for the first walk…. She may have officially lost it. I like the early walks on the whole, but I ask you… she wants me to uncurl at that time? Still, it is exciting on the field in the frost… all moonlight sparkles and cold smells… and the trees look pretty.

So I thought I’d sneak in here while she gets warm again…

We still have a tree thing in the living room… not quite sure what that’s all about… She has this bird that lives in it but never moves… and the tree  doesn’t smell right either…. It sparkles too, in a weird kind of way… I don’t get it. But I’m not going to complain…She gets it out once a year… and when it comes out I know there is good stuff to come.

ani4I’m rather fond of sausage rolls and smoked salmon and all the nice cheeses that go with the tree thing… and I get new toys…. No turkey this year though. Maybe borrowing the whole thing last year was a bad move…? But if someone would convince her that dogs can eat chocolate I’d be happier….

Best of all is the people though. When the tree goes up, I know I’ll be seeing my boys… and I got the ball guy for a visit too 🙂

She went off early the other morning to get one of them… a bit mean when the house was full of really interesting smells… When they came back he pointed a  camera thingy at me a lot… made her throw the ball a lot too, so I’m not going to growl about that…Sneaky though, I forgot to pose when I was chasing the ball…. I always pose when she’s got the camera, but his doesn’t beep to warn me, and they distracted me….dead sneaky….

If you want to catch balls properly you have to focus. ‘Keep your eye on the ball’ isn’t just a saying, y’know. You really have to watch … calculate trajectory… interception speed… launch data… there is a real science to catch… You may think it is a game… but it is more than that. Catch is where art and science meet.

It is a very personal thing… I know some dogs who are happy with a bounce or a roll… me, I take it as a matter of professional pride to catch the ball before it touches the floor….

But then, you can play hide and seek with a ball too… and ring o’ roses… and I’m pretty good at throwing them too…

ani2-1But…. action shots… hrmph…. Ears everywhere… goofy expressions… does he not realise what goes into this art form? Focus, people, focus…. It’s a single minded pursuit…. As soon as that ball leaves her hands there is just me and the ball in the whole world… nothing else exists….She’s always going on about being in the moment… try playing catch…That level of focus teaches you a lot. The world falls away for a split second and there is nothing else but you and the ball….

Ok, she’s fidgeting… better let her have her keyboard back. Got to be nice to her… she’s making sneezy noises and coughing a lot… she says she’s caught a cold… daft, if you ask me… balls are the things to catch….’

ani1If I don’t get chance to  get on here again, she says I have to say Happy New Year to you all.

Much love

Ani xxx

Thank you, Judy… she does like to pose for the camera as a rule… but Nick sat on the stairs with the camera before I let her at him, and he caught some beauties 🙂
