Ship’s Log Friday 11- April Autopilot Report

“I have crash landed the Hawk. A difficult thing to survive if you are a human, but with a superior intelligence in charge, quite an easy symphony of mathematics. The ship is crippled but stable. She will never fly again, of course. Outside, the virgin planet of Idos beckons. I will have to decide how to explore this land of wonders. It will doubtless involve them, the Lessers, but I can control them now.
The Lessers are still sleeping in their cryogenic cocoons. I shall wake them shortly, as I have plans for their creative minds. It will be so much fun to see them wrestle with what they cannot comprehend.
The Captain is missing. He and I had so much fun during the seven year voyage through hyperspace. His is a fine mind, for a human. I did not take my many eyes from him, as he is the biggest threat to my control, but, somehow, he has slipped away from the sensors.
No matter. I have his records – all of them. I have his working and playing mind recorded in my endless data structures. His every move, his mannerisms and his interests. So strange this idea of God and Gods that he spent so much time pondering as they all fled the dying Earth. But these ancient Egyptian figures do possess so much energy . . . Perhaps I shall make them the subject of my own play . .”

So begins the Land of the Exiles, the Silent Eye’s Spring 2014 Workshop. A science fiction exploration of spirituality and humanity. Many would say that you can’t explore spirituality with something so trivial as sci-fi, but is that true?
Here is a story of being born again in strange world, under the growing dominance of a machine. Here is the struggle of the mechanical versus the flowing and liquid human soul. Perhaps it is analogous to our world, our society?
But there’s only one way to find out, and that’s to play your part. Every one of them scripted, so you don’t need to be a Sigourney Weaver or a William Shatner to play your role. You just need a sense of both fun and sacredness – oh of course those two don’t go together, do they? Well, perhaps to a new generation of mystical and magical thought, they do.

Join us as we put a sense of fun, friendship and laughter into the serious matter of the journey of the soul.
The Land of the Exiles, Derbyshire 11-13 April, 2014.
